Rods and Cones of the Human Eye

The" backward" connection of rod and cone is helpful for several reasons.

By placing the slice right next to the epithelial cells on the contrary side of the eye( retinal painted epithelium RPE), part of the old slice can be carried by the RPE cells.

Another advantage of this layout is that the RPE can absorb arbitrary light. This means your vision is important to be clear. Light can also have a mischievous effect, so this set up helps cover your rod and cone from gratuitous damage.

There are multitudinous other reasons why discs near the RPE are helpful, we'll mention one further. Suppose someone is running a marathon. To serve the muscles of the body, runners need to consume certain nutrients or mots while running. Rods and cones are similar, but rather of conducting, they are constantly transferring signals.

This requires the movement of large numbers of aggregates, which must be replenished to continue working. Because the RPE is right next to the slice, it can help to fluently reload the photoreceptor cells and discs that they need to continue transmitting signals.
