Surah Al-Waqi‘ah is the 56th chapter of the Holy Qur’an, revealed in Makkah. It consists of 96 verses and focuses on the reality of the Day of Judgment, emphasizing that its وقوع (occurrence) is certain and unavoidable.
The Surah vividly describes the events of the Hereafter, dividing people into three main groups: the foremost (As-Sabiqun), who are closest to Allah; the people of the right (Ashab al-Yamin), who will receive their records in their right hand; and the people of the left (Ashab al-Shimal), who will face severe consequences. Through powerful imagery, it portrays the rewards of Paradise and the punishments of Hell, encouraging reflection on one’s actions in this world.
Surah Al-Waqi‘ah also highlights Allah’s قدرت (power) through signs in creation—such as the growth of plants, the flow of water, and the creation of humans—reminding people that the One who created life can easily bring it back after death.
