Satta Matka dates back to the 1950s in India and originally started as a form of lottery betting on the opening and closing rates of cotton traded on the New York Cotton Exchange. It was a simple concept where players would place bets on numbers associated with the cotton prices, and the outcome would be decided through a draw. Over time, the game evolved into a form of gambling involving numbers, and the term "Matka" (meaning "pot" came into play as the numbers were initially drawn from a pot.
