The game started in Mumbai when people used to place bets on the opening and closing prices of cotton. Over time, this method changed. People started drawing numbers from a pot or matka (an earthen pot), and this is how the name Satta Matka came into being.

Now, instead of cotton prices, people choose random numbers between 0 and 9. These numbers are drawn in a way that gives a result, often called the “open” and “close” figures. The person whose chosen numbers match the result wins.
