Buddy passes are one type of travel award available to United Airlines employees and retirees. It is a standby permit that allows employees' friends and relatives to travel at a significant savings. Buddy pass holders, unlike regular ticket holders, do not have assigned seats; instead, they are allowed to board the aircraft if seats are available after all paying customers and higher-priority travelers have been serviced.
