Victims of Camp Lejeune water contamination are relieved that the Camp Lejeune Justice Act will be made legal, allowing them to file Camp Lejeune lawsuits. The water contamination was discovered in the early 1980s, but the residents were exposed to dangerous chemicals for decades before that. Only in the middle of that decade were the most contaminated water purification plants shut down. Until then, all military and navy personnel, their families, and civilian workers were exposed to toxic chemicals in the drinking water supplied to them.
