Tommie S. Hinton

Tommie S. Hinton is the founder of the National Association of Black Journalists and the first African-American to be inducted into the American Society of Newspaper Editors.
Hinton was born in 1906 in a small town called Tallassee, Alabama. He was one of 12 children and grew up in poverty. His family had barely enough money to survive but he still managed to graduate from high school with honors and attend college at Alabama State University, where he became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. He later transferred to Howard University where he graduated with a degree in journalism and became editor-in-chief for The Hilltop, which is Howard’s student newspaper.
In 1944, Hinton became editor-in-chief for The Norfolk Journal and Guide which was an African American newspaper based out of Norfolk, Virginia.For more information https://www.authortommiehinton.com/
